# Run daily check-ins *in Slack*.

A standup without the meeting. Revvly asks your team a few questions in Slack on working days, posts each person’s answers to a channel as they come in, and sums up who answered at the end of the day. For the weekly Key Result check-in, see [the OKR guide](https://www.revvly.ai/docs/guides/okrs). For the Assistant, see [the Revvly Assistant](https://www.revvly.ai/docs/assistant).

## Before you start

Daily Check-ins ask a few people the same short questions in a Slack direct message on your working days, then post their answers to a channel. Four things need to be in place. Your workspace needs the Check-ins feature, which Revvly turns on. Slack must be connected, because New Check-in stays disabled until it is. Each person you want to ask must be linked to their Slack account, or Slack cannot reach them. And you must be a workspace admin: the Check-ins screen, and everything on it, is for admins only. A private channel only appears in the channel list once the Revvly app is in it, so open the channel in Slack, run /invite @Revvly, then press Refresh channels. This is not the weekly Key Result check-in, which asks owners for a value and a confidence on their OKRs; that one is covered in the OKR guide.

Where: Settings > Integrations > Slack > Manage people. Link each person to their Slack account here.

## Create a check-in

Give it a name and write the questions. A new check-in starts with three you can keep or change: what did you do yesterday, what will you do today, and anything blocking you. You can have up to 10. Each question has a type: Long answer, Short answer, Yes / No, Scale 1-5, or Single choice with 2 to 10 options, one per line. Each can be Required, and each has a colour, which marks its answers in Slack. A question can also be limited to some weekdays under Ask on, such as a weekly-goals question asked only on Mondays. Leave every day clear to ask it every day the check-in runs. A day on which none of the questions applies has nothing to ask, so it is skipped. Use Up and Down to change the order.

Where: Settings > Check-ins > New Check-in

## Choose who is asked

Pick Teams, People, or both. When you pick a team, Leave out appears so you can drop someone from it. The editor tells you how many people will be asked and names anyone Slack cannot reach. Team membership is looked up when each day’s check-in starts, and the team and questions are then fixed for that day. Editing a check-in therefore applies from the next run and never changes one already in progress.

## Set the schedule

Choose Ask at and Post the report at, in quarter hours. The report must come at least 30 minutes after the questions. Under Ask, Everyone at the same time uses the check-in’s timezone for everyone. At each person’s own time asks each person at the ask time where they are, by the timezone on their profile, and gives them until the report time on their own clock to answer. Anyone without a timezone uses the one you choose for people without one. One report is still posted, after the last person’s window has closed. Under Days, Every working day follows your workspace’s working days from Settings, General. Only some working days lets you pick a subset; it can narrow your working days, never add a day you do not work. A Reminder can go 30 minutes, 1 hour or 2 hours before the deadline, only to people who have not answered yet, or you can turn it off.

## Put dates in a question

Type {last_checkin} in a question and each run writes the date of the previous check-in there, so “What have you done since {last_checkin}?” asked on a Monday reads “since Friday”. {today} is the date of the current one. The check-in itself keeps the placeholder; only each day’s questions carry the real date.

## Answer in Slack

At the ask time each person gets a direct message with three buttons. Answer asks the questions one at a time in the conversation, so an answer can never land on the wrong question; to leave an optional question blank, type skip. Answer in a form opens all the questions at once. Skip today skips the day. Once someone has answered, the message offers Edit answers, which works until the report is posted; after a skip it offers Answer after all. Someone who misses their deadline can still answer for 24 hours after it, and their answers are marked late. Links typed in an answer stay clickable.

## Use the command

Everything the buttons do is also available as a command. /revvly standup starts the questions in a direct message, and /revvly standup form opens the form. /revvly standup skip skips today, and /revvly standup status says where you stand on each open check-in. If you are in more than one, add its name, as in /revvly standup skip QA daily. Going on holiday: /revvly standup away marks you away until you say /revvly standup back, and you can set an end with /revvly standup away until 2026-10-30 or /revvly standup away 5 days. Days you are away do not ask you, do not hold the report back and do not count as missed.

## What the channel sees

Each person’s answers are posted to the channel on their own the moment they answer, each answer marked with its question’s colour. If they edit before the report, the same post is updated in place rather than posted again, and a late answer is posted when it arrives. After the report time, one summary is posted: how many answered, skipped, gave no response, were away or were not reached, with the names in each group. Nobody is left out. Someone who has missed two or more in a row has the count next to their name, such as (3 in a row). A late answer or skip updates the summary in place. Someone whose message Slack never delivered is listed as not reached, never as having stayed silent, and each person who stayed silent gets one direct message with how many they have missed. Answers are visible to everyone in the channel, so choose it with that in mind.

Where: Settings > Check-ins > a check-in > Edit. Saving posts a line in the chosen channel to check that Revvly can post there. Tick Show this answer first in each post on a question that matters most, such as anything blocking you: its answer goes straight under the person’s name, marked with the question’s colour, above their other answers.

## Manage your check-ins

Each check-in on the list shows its questions, times, days, channel and when it next asks. Send Test sends you its questions in a Slack direct message and posts a test line in its channel; nothing is recorded and nobody else is asked. Pause stops it until you press Resume. Archive is permanent: an archived check-in never runs again and cannot be resumed, though its history is kept. If Slack is disconnected, every check-in is paused, any check-in in progress that day is cancelled, and workspace admins get a notification in the bell. Nothing resumes by itself: reconnect Slack and press Resume on each one. If a report cannot be posted to its channel after five tries, admins are notified too.

## With the Revvly Assistant

Admins can ask the Assistant to list check-ins, show one with who it will ask, create one, change it, pause, resume or archive it, or send a test. Every change is shown as a card that you approve or decline, and nothing changes until you approve it. The check-in tools are for workspace admins only and are not available over MCP.
